Chair Person

Hello, I'm Christene. I'm a transgender woman who started her transition at the age of 58. Like many late bloomers, I found myself struggling to break free from the role that was expected of me.

When I joined TransWakefield as a member, I was searching for resources, and advice, to help me navigate this new chapter in my life. Along the way, I discovered a passion for helping others who were on their own transition journeys.

As I became more comfortable with myself, I worked alongside the previous chairperson of TransWakefield running meetings and support sessions. Eventually, I took over as Chair Person and had my own Martin Luther King moment: "I have a dream..." and all that. I wanted to create a safe and friendly environment where transgender people could learn to socialise with the public, and navigate the wider world.

Thanks to my efforts, and the support of our members, TransWakefield has become a thriving, and valuable, resource for the transgender community. I'm proud to have played a part in its success, and to continue supporting others on their own journeys.

If you're looking for a welcoming community, and helpful resources, I encourage you to join us at TransWakefield.

I first debuted my 'Trans-Femme' self in September 2021, and I have been learning to express myself alongside TransWakefield ever since. As the secretary of TransWakefield, I dedicate my time to ensure that the Trans and Non-Binary community are heard and represented, and that their unique perspective is considered at every level of decision making.

I am a big believer in pursuing the things that make me happy and fulfilled, as well as creating a community where one's interests can be shared. I have been fascinated by both Philosophy and Creative Writing for as long as I can remember, and I love exploring new ideas, as well as getting lost in my own worlds and roleplaying.

I am committed to supporting the committee's mission to create a safe and inclusive environment. I work with TransWakefield's Chairperson to assist with organising and documenting committee meetings, and ensuring that the committee operates both efficiently and effectively.

My commitment to TransWakefield stems from my personal experiences as a member of the transgender community, and my passion to give back to the community that has supported me.
